Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend―the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long. Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?
Book Review:
I love this book and the series. Winter is the last book in the Lunar Chronicles series, a sci-fi retelling of fairy tales full of excitement, danger, and romance! Winter is probably my favorite of the series, maybe because you already know the characters and the storyline. Everything is set up, you can really get to see character interactions and development! I also have a love-hate relationship with endings. I love conclusions, seeing the problems solved and the characters being able to move forward. However, that end also usually means no more books and there are always still loose ends. Nothing ever really ends, so there are all these questions left unanswered!
A book like Winter exemplifies both parts of this argument, at least for me. It was an amazing conclusion, so exciting and suspenseful. I was glad that the characters could take a breather and so many were able to reconnect. However, there were so many questions still left and so far that the characters still had to go. Thankfully, there is a short story that follows giving some more insight into their lives and two graphic novels following Iko, but I digress.
Going back to Winter as a reread. I was much less nervous in rereading this. I knew that things would work out. I could take my time a little more, instead of frantically trying to figure out what would happen next. It was great to read and see all the characters again. It was just as good the 2nd time around. Winter is probably my favorite character and I love being able to see her story connect with the other characters. Also her relationship with Jacin! 🥰 Winter and Scarlet were also really funny! Additionally, the group interactions were hilarious. Honestly, I just love the characters!
This is an amazing book and I totally recommend it! It does have some heavy issues, so I think it is for older teens. Also it is the last book in a highly connected series, so you really should read the other ones first!
