Can she stop herself from falling before she’s too far gone?

As a fashion aficionado and best friend of the queen of the African island country Ọlọrọ Ilé, Iris Blakely dreams of using her talent to start a sustainable clothing line to help citizens in impoverished areas and honor the country’s resources. But when she discovers that Ekon Diallo–the man who betrayed her best friend–will be her business consultant, the battle between her desires and reality begins.

Ekon Diallo has lost everything: his princely title, his material possessions, his friends, and the respect of his fellow Ọlọrans. To pay for his actions against Ọlọrọ Ilé, he’s forced to assist the charismatic Iris Blakely–but he can’t allow his heart to distract him from regaining his status.

Though they come from vastly different worlds, Iris and Ekon are both determined to reach their goals, and the only way to do that is to work together–if they can just keep their hearts from getting in the way . . .

Book Review:

This had a wonderful redemption story about learning from mistakes and changing for the better. I was definitely excited to read this book especially because I already knew the characters a bit. To Win a Prince is Toni Shiloh’s new book and it is set in the same world as In Search of a Prince. It is actually about Iris and Ekon.

Iris was so fun, she was very expressive and worked hard. Iris wanted to help the women on the island create a life for themselves but there were so many obstacles in her way. I loved how Iris strove to see the good in people. However Iris was struggling, she was finding herself falling for Ekon. She wanted to protect her heart but she also longed for a romance to sweep her off her feet. Iris had to learn to wait on God’s timing and trust in God’s plan even when her life feels crazy.

Oh, I felt for Ekon. He was a bit of a spoiled jerk at first, but he quickly grew on me. He grew up with comfort and means, and he had to learn what it meant to humble himself. I really enjoyed reading about his growth and seeing him being open to learning and changing. He worked hard and underneath his attitude, he was a kind man. Ekon had to learn to let go of his pride and turn to God. He had to be willing to be brought low so that he might become a better man.

Ekon and Iris were sweet to read about. They felt a connection for each other, but they both were fighting against it. I loved their interactions and their eazy conversations. They were just so cute and they learned to care for each other.

The story was really interesting. Ekon was fighting to redeem himself and Iris was fighting for her business. I was really investing and I read this book so quickly. I am crossing my fingers that more books will come from this world because I saw some hints of other couples.

To Win a Prince was wonderful and even better than the first! I loved the characters and I grew to know them. I also enjoyed the faith that Shiloh wrove into the story, God was truly present in this story. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy Christian contemporary romances. To Win a Prince is a clean Christian contemporary romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.

From Love Inspired: Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope.

Book Review:

This was a great read! It took me a bit to read it, but once I really took the time to start it I really enjoyed it. An Unlikely Alliance is written by Toni Shiloh. This book is standalone but it does have some old characters from An Unlikely Proposal. I always love Toni Shiloh’s books so I was super excited to read this one!

Jalissa was kind of hard for me to get at first. She was a bit abrupt and generally saw things only one way, but I grew to like her as I got to know her better. Jalissa was stubborn but she was also kind, she really cared for the animals at the shelter and she would do anything for them. I also liked learning about Jalissa’s anxiety and how it did not define her as a character, but how it did not shy away from it. Jalissa was rough around the edges because of her past, but she learned to trust God and what it meant to forgive.

I thought that Rider was the sweetest! He worked hard to care for those around him and he had a heart for kids who had experienced bullying. Rider was kind and he worked hard, I liked how he tried to understand Jalissa and be open. His past made him wary of her but he was willing to put it aside to help the kids who had experienced bullying at SAFE.

Jalissa and Rider had a rough start, they did not like each other at all. However they were willing to put aside their differences to save the animal shelter and SAFE. It was fun to read about them interacting and seeing them fall in love. They were enemies to lovers, and were drawn together by the same cause. The storyline was interesting and I was interested to see how Jalissa and Rider were going to be able to raise money in order to save the animal shelter and SAFE.

An Unlikely Alliance was an enjoyable read! It was fun to see old characters too! I liked how Shiloh was able to weave faith and forgiveness so seamlessly into the book. I would definitely recommend this book! An Unlikely Alliance is a clean Christian contemporary romance.

It seems like a dream come true . . . until it forces her to question everything.

But everything changes when her mom drops a bombshell–Brielle is really a princess in the island kingdom of Ọlọrọ Ilé, off the coast of Africa, and she must immediately assume her royal position, since the health of her grandfather, the king, is failing.

Distraught by all the secrets her mother kept, Brielle is further left spinning when the Ọlọrọ Ilé Royal Council brings up an old edict that states she must marry before her coronation, or the crown will pass to another. Brielle is uncertain if she even wants the throne, and with her world totally shaken, where will she find the courage to take a chance on love and brave the perils a wrong decision may bring?

Book Review:

I adored this book! I have to admit that it took me a little while to get into it but once I really started I loved it! I have read nearly all of Toni Shiloh’s books and this one was another hit! In Search of a Prince is her newest book and it looks gorgeous.

Okay so this book was just great! There were a couple of things that I was uncertain about, but otherwise I loved this book. Brielle was such a cool character, I really liked reading about her and getting to see what she was thinking. Brielle was relatable, a normal girl who was just trying to trust God. I loved her little quirks but I also loved her heart. She truly cared for those around her.

I enjoyed reading Brielle’s journey as she learned what it meant to be a princess and care for her people. Brielle had a lot to learn but she was up to the task. I loved how I was able to relate to Brielle, she felt like she was drowning but she trusted God. There are times when life is overwhelming but God is faithful.

The romance was so sweet and amazing! I just loved it! It was so fun to read about Brielle falling in love but also choosing to love. Love is a choice. I don’t want to give anything away but I am so happy with who she ended up with. The side characters were also a lot of fun. I adored Iris and I hope that she gets her own book. Brielle’s grandfather was also a joy to read about.

In Search of a Prince was just a lovely book. There were a couple of religious things that I didn’t quite agree with but otherwise this book was stunning! I am so excited to see what else Shiloh writes. This was just the perfect royalty book! In Search of a Prince is a clean Christian contemporary royalty book.

Guest Post:

Writing is a creative process that is different for each person. I love to find out how some of my favorite authors go about creating their stories, so I thought I’d share my process with you. One of the first things I do is create my characters, but for In Search of a Prince, I also looked at developing the country as well.

You see Ọlọrọ Ilé is a fictional country set in west Africa in the Gulf of Guinea. I looked at some surrounding places (Bioko Island & Sao Tome and Principe) for inspiration on what it’s like to live on an island. For developing the country’s history and culture, I looked at how Africa was colonized and tribes in Nigeria.

Nigeria caught my interest because it makes up the biggest percentage in my ancestry report. (Yes, I jumped on the bandwagon to have my DNA analyzed for ancestry. It was fun.) Knowing what I wanted to do in the story, how I wanted the history to develop, I chose to model the majority of Ọlọrọ Ilé after the Yoruba tribe. I also modeled the language in the story after their language too.

As for my characters, their names, looks, personality, etc, all served a purpose for the book. I didn’t yet know it at the time because I don’t plot the story outline. Instead, I develop my characters (their strengths and weaknesses) and their backstory and let that take me on the journey. What would it be like for an American to discover they have ties to a faraway land? What would it be like to make the decision to rule or abdicate your responsibilities? Since I knew Brielle pretty well, it was easy to put myself in her shoes as I wrote word after word, page after page.

Of course the book went through some revisions and the timeline of events was switched around to give you the book you have in your hands today. It was an amazing journey and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it all turned out.

Until next time,

Toni Shiloh

Author Interview:

  1. What made you want to be a writer?
I’ve always enjoyed reading and dabbled in writing throughout my school days. However, after I
took a creative writing degree in college, that love of writing was really nurtured and developed.
  2. What was the hardest part of writing An Unlikely Proposal?
The revisions!! They were painful at times but certainly stretched me as a writer. Now that
they’re done with, I can appreciate the process. But during that time, I probably ate more
    chocolate than necessary.
  3. Where did you get the idea for An Unlikely Proposal?
I love marriage of convenience tropes. They’re my favorite to read and you don’t see them as
often in contemporary setting. I knew I wanted to write one so I brainstormed until the idea
    formed.
  4. Did you base your characters off of anyone?
No. I don’t think I’ve ever done that in my stories.
  5. What do you want people to take away from An Unlikely Proposal?
That you can trust God with your pain. He’s willing to take you through the healing process,
whatever that looks like for you.
  6. What character do you relate to most?
Oh good question! Probably Trinity. I’ve never suffered the depth of lost that Omar has so
Trinity was easier to relate to.
  7. How do you deal with writer’s block?
If I’m stuck, I’ll listen to music, talk to one of my critique partners for possible ideas on how to
    move forward, and pray!
  8. How do you create characters that people can connect to?
I really get to know my characters and what triggers and things elicit strong emotions. Once I
know those details, I’m able to pants my way through the story.

Book Review:

I was super excited to read this book because I always find marriage of convenience stories super sweet and enjoyable. And I have to say, An Unlikely Proposal was an amazing book! Trinity Davis never expected to find herself in a marriage of convenience to her best friend, Omar Young, but that is where she found herself. Omar Young wasn’t looking for love, however his girls need someone to care for them and he needs help. Will Omar and Trinity be able to make their relationship work or will they stay in a marriage of convenience?

Trinity had suffered through a horrible break up, she didn’t want to risk her again. But then her best friend suggests marriage, she finds herself in a totally different situation. I liked Trinity, I thought that she was so sweet. I loved how much she cared for Omar and for his girls. She had diabetes, and it was really affecting their life. She had learned how to care for herself, but she needed the insurance to pay for her insulin.

Omar was a great guy, I loved reading about his care for his daughters. He was a strong firefighter but he was also grieving. He had lost his wife a couple of years ago, and now he finds his mother-in-law gone. He needed the help to care for his girls, Faith and Joy. However Omar really cared for Trinity, and it was sweet to see it grow into love.

Omar and Trinity were a lovely couple and I really liked how they were friends first. Their love grew from friendship to something more. They had to work through their past hurts, in order to actually make their marriage work. I loved Omar’s daughters, they were so sweet and cute. I also liked Rock, he was so steady and a stronghold for Omar.

I found An Unlikely Proposal awesome! I loved the characters. They had to work on their relationship, and go to God for guidance. I would definitely recommend this book! I can’t wait to see what else she writes. An Unlikely Proposal was a sweet, Christian, clean read!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
