Cassandra Linfield is a lady fossil collector who declares she will never marry as no man will ever take her studies seriously. When circumstances force her to travel to Town for the Season, Cassy infiltrates the hallowed portals of the Geological Society from which she has been banned. She is horrified when she comes face to face with her nemesis, the infuriating Earl of Rothbury.

Lord Rothbury is a gentleman-geologist with a turbulent romantic past. After a youthful disappointment, he vows never to fall in love again and makes the decision, instead, to seek out a convenient wife when he returns to England from his geological travels abroad.

Brought together by their close family ties, Cassy and Rothbury collaborate on a geological paper and discover a powerful attraction. Marriage, however, is the one subject they cannot agree upon. But when Cassy’s life is threatened, the two realize that love matters more than their objections.

Book Review:

A unique and sweet Regency romance, The Earl’s Lady Geologist is the first book I have read of Ms. Baxter. It was so cute! I went in intrigued, because I had little knowledge about the geology and archeology of that time. It was fascinating to see that setting for this book. Cassandra, Casssy is a lady fossil collector. She is adamant that she will never marry, yet her aunts are just as determined to get her to Town for a Season. There she at least can attempt to infiltrate the Geological Society. However, while in Town she is dismayed to encounter the Earl of Rothbury, who she finds infuriating and confining. Rothbury, a fellow geologist, has had troubles with love in the past and now is ready for a sensible marriage of convenience. Through family ties, Cassy and Rothbury are brought together and begin working together on a geological paper. As feelings emerge and the two clash, will they find that love is greater than their objections?

This was super cute! I really like Cassy. She had a backbone and opinions, but she was not stubbornly obstinate or thoughtless. She cared about her family, even though she had her own views.I appreciated her intelligence and her love of geology. Her passion was so cool to see! It was also cool to see some of the work done by females at that time.Rothbury was also a sweet character. He was also quite sure of his beliefs and cared for his family. I liked seeing the family interactions and setting that it brought to the story. He cared for them and tried to listen to them. I thought that their love story was also adorable!  They grew to appreciate one another and like each other as people. I loved seeing how they cared for each other, especially how Rothbury tried to court her.At the end of the book, I actually said aloud, “That was so cute!”.

The elements of mystery and danger that come through are also very exciting. I think it was a nice addition that fleshed out the story. I am also interested in Harriet, she had a secondary plot with her featured and I would love to see her story continued! Overall, this was a clean, sweet Regency read! I liked the addition of geology, though I am by no means an expert myself, I was able to understand and I thought it added to the story. I would recommend this to those who enjoy a sweet romance and like historical fiction!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
