Friends come and go. I wish this one would go.

I know Denver Talcott hates me as much as I hate him, but since we’re sharing custody of the same friend, I can’t get rid of him. Believe me, I’ve tried.

Worse, he’s now working at the same startup as me. My dream job cannot be his dream job, because my dream is to not see him on a daily basis.

Denver… You wouldn’t think a prickly introvert could also be a busybody, but it’s possible. I’ve met one. Sadie raises my blood pressure with her mere presence, and she can’t ever know that. She’d weaponize it. And then sell the recipe to other sadists.

Plus, I have another secret—this pesky attraction I feel towards her.

It’s got to be one of those inappropriate reactions to stress, like when you laugh while being reprimanded, or see your to-do list and decide to take a nap.

I’ll be fine. It’ll be fine. I just won’t ever look at her. Except now we’re desk mates at work…

Book Review:

I loved this book! I haven’t read all of the books in this series yet, but I still loved reading Sadie and Denver’s story! They were so cute and funny even as Sadie tried to kill Denver with a dodgeball 😉

Can you unfriend someone in real life? Because if you can, Sadie would gladly unfriend her annoying neighbor, Denver. Unfortunately, she’s stuck with him at her house and at her work. But as she spends more and more time with Denver, she finds out that it’s actually kind of fun messing with him. And it might be even more fun to work with him 😉

Okay, first of all the banter in this book was awesome! Sadie and Denver have amazing banter and insults against each other. They are so funny, and I loved watching them prank their office mates too. And the dodgeball thing was just amazing! It’s hilarious because they are trying so hard to pretend that they don’t like each other.

But they slowly fall for one another and break down each other’s walls too. I really liked how there wasn’t a specific moment where they fell in love or started liking each other. Because in a way, they had never really hated each other. They just had to learn to let go of their past judgements of the other person.

And it was sweet to watch their character development. Sadie had a lot of trust issues she needed to work through while Denver was always trying to save people. I think it was cute to see how they matched and balanced each other out. Sadie needed to learn how to relax while Denver had to learn how to make commitments.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves romcoms! It is a clean, sweet, amazing read 🙂

Sometimes love is war.

Clay… My best friend has held a grudge against his half-sister, Lauren, forever. It’s unjustified and ridiculous, but I have to take his side. Also ridiculous? How bad I have it for her.

My Lauren radar goes off the second she steps in the building. Did I mention we work together and her dad’s the boss? Yeah, she’s so off-limits I might as well start running now and never come back.

Except, her family is like family to me. So, I’ll do whatever it takes to stick around, even if she hates my guts.

Lauren… I date guys nothing like Clay on purpose. I will not let my old crush on him get the best of me. It’s going on the list of things I’ve outgrown and will deny ever having, like the Justin Bieber poster I used to keep on the back of my door.

It doesn’t matter that I’ve caught Clay looking at me like he’s a jewel thief and I’m a precious gem encased in glass. He’d never choose me over my brother, or his job, or his enjoyment in teasing me.

Avoiding Clay is easy, until the day I realize my dad’s asked for Clay’s help in checking up on my dates.

No stinking way.

Book Review:

I haven’t read a ton of rom com books in awhile, so this was a nice jump back into the genre! I Hated You First was also my first Rachel John book, but I have been wanting to try out her books for a long time. And it was such a fun book. I knew from the second chapter who the next book was going to be about, and I’m so happy I was right:)

Clay’s life is a little bit more complicated than most. His longtime crush is also his best friend’s half-sister and his boss’ daughter. So no matter how much he wants to try things with Lauren, he can’t take the chance. Lauren dates guys nothing like Clay on purpose. She had a silly high-school crush on him, which she’s completely over. It doesn’t make a difference that he sometimes looks at her like he’s a jewel thief and she’s a precious gem encased in glass. But when Lauren finds out her dad wants Clay’s help to break her up with her boyfriend, she’s mad enough to do something she might regret later.

I love rom coms, and I loved watching Clay and Lauren try their hardest not to like each other. Clay was in an impossible spot. He had been raised by his grandparents, and their relationship was formal and stiff. So he’d been at Lauren and Parker’s more than his own house, but he’s painfully aware of the fact that he’s not family. Clay was super sweet, but he was terrified to rock the boat. He didn’t want to lose his family, but he had to decide whether he was willing to choose Lauren over everything else.

Lauren had a lot more fire than Clay, but she had to find out what she wanted too. She was used to doing everything impulsively and her way, and she had to learn what it meant to listen to someone else’s wants. I think their banter felt a little forced at times, but I loved how Clay and Lauren fit together. They helped each other put down their masks, but they had to figure a lot out including Lauren’s crazy family. There were times when it felt more like Lauren and Clay were attracted to each other and not in love, but this was still a super sweet and clean rom com. And I can’t wait for the next one which is going to be about Jenny and Noah!
