Book Review:
Wow! This book was just everything that I had hoped for! Under Fire is the third and final book in Lynn H Blackburn’s Defend and Protect series. I have loved Blackburn’s books since I picked up the first book of hers that I have read, and this book was just as good as her other books.
Oh my goodness, Tessa and Zane! I was so excited to finally read their story and there was so much to unpack. The romance and suspense and faith were the perfect blend and kept me reading!
Tessa was a whirlwind and there was just so much to learn about her. It was so interesting to read about her. She had a lot to work through, but it was sweet to see her learn to rely on God. I loved reading about her interacting with Zane and falling in love. I loved how strong and capable Tessa was. I also adored her relationship with the guys on her team, it was sweet. Tessa had to learn to let others in and to rest in God’s plans.
Zane was also amazing! He was such a sweetheart and I adored him! He had fallen for Tessa hard but they had their issues to work through. Zane had to learn to trust Tessa and what it looked like to care for Tessa. Zane was such a wonderful and strong character, but he did have his own past to work through.
Romance was sweet and I loved the development. Blackburn wrote a wonderful friends to lovers romance. I was rooting for Zane and Tessa from the beginning. The suspense was also so engaging. I was on the edge of my seat as I read this book, I did not want to put it down. It was so good that I finished it in a day.
One thing that I always love about Blackburn’s books is how she weaves in faith so well. These characters are human, they make mistakes but they also learn to trust God. Blackburn portrays characters that feel real who are learning what it means to rest in God who is in control no matter the circumstances.
Under Fire is amazing and thrilling! I would definitely recommend this book, it needs to be on your TBR! I would recommend this book to those who enjoy suspense books, probably at least 13 and up because of the suspense. Under Fire is a clean Christian suspense romance.

Book Review:
This was a fun and engaging book! I had enjoyed the first book in this series so I was excited to see how the second book would turn out. Hostile Intent is the second book in Tara Grace Ericson’s Black Tower Security series
Joey and Cole were cute together. They did not get along at first but it was sweet to read about them connecting and breaking past each other’s walls. I really liked the progression of their relationship and how they learned to trust each other. They were really sweet together as they learned to let go of the past and let others in. They had been through a lot so they were both a little jaded.
I really liked the characters and their development. They felt real and relatable. I also love how Ericson is able to sprinkle faith and God so easily into her books. The characters go through life but they are also challenged to trust and rely on God more.
The plot was interesting and I was engaged in the story from the beginning. I wanted to know how Joey and Cole were going to save Cole’s company. It was fun to read about Joey going from suspecting Cole to falling in love. The romance didn’t feel rushed and I think that it had the perfect amount of suspense. There was suspense and mystery but it didn’t feel scary.
This was a good book and I would recommend Hostile Intent to those who enjoy Christian romantic suspense. I am super excited for the next book in the series and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

We are excited to share a guest post from Kate Angelo the author of Driving Force. 🙂
As a genre, romantic suspense lends itself to a complex story with exciting plot twists and deep character development I find captivating. It’s one of my favorite genres to read and write because I’m fascinated how deeply wounded characters set aside their differences and work together under extreme pressure to bring down a villain. When writing romantic suspense, I explore ways my character’s past affects how they approach the external plot. Will she run into danger, or bury her head and hide? Will he take the lead, or will he step back and allow the heroine to guide them? Motivation mingled with the life experiences and personality of the character will dictate their response and it’s a challenge to write. But by the end, two imperfect people become enlightened and discover the internal obstacles holding them back from their greatest desires which leads us to their happily ever after—and that perfect kiss!
Besides digging into the characters, romantic suspense adds a level of tension you may not find in other thriller and suspense novels. Two imperfect people juggling life and their own hindrances is one thing but throw in the need to survive or save lives and now we’re really cranking up the pressure. Personally, I love reading books with smart villains whose motivation is something greater than evil for the sake of evil. Add some bleeding edge technology or scientific research and I’m all in!
Recently, I wrote a romantic suspense novel with a phytologist heroine. If you’re unsure what a phytologist is, you’re not alone. After all, how many times have you found yourself discussing algae with others? Oddly enough, I have! While drafting the novel, I went to lunch with a group of friends and met a scientist who is a botanist, psychologist, and phytologist. I’ll admit, for the first time in my life I was excited to discuss algae! I was able to share some new research in an area he was passionate about and chat for hours about the live saving properties of this new type of algae.
Bringing the reader along for an investigation is another element of romantic suspense I love. Even if I know who the villain is, I’m intrigued by the motivation behind the evil and learning the secrets they keep. I want a villain with a wound so deep it drives them to hurt others. It sounds terrible, but I suppose it’s because I like a hint of psychological thriller in my suspense novels.
In the end, I believe I chose to write romantic suspense because I like layering in complexity and digging deep to deliver a story that keeps you on your toes, not only because lives are at risk, but because the reader is in suspense over whether two flawed characters can overcome their issues and find their happily ever after. Oh…and because I’m a huge nerd and I get to delve deep into researching psychology, phytology, biochemical engineering, and all the other sciences!

You’re as good as dead.
As they investigate, Drake learns the father is a former elite sniper and assassin, and he has done a professional job of hiding any evidence of his wrong doing. Drake vows to protect Natalie and the three children—all of whom he has come to care for—putting everything on the line for them. When bullets start flying, can he save them all from a certain death?
Book Review:
Night Moves is the fourth book in the Nighthawk series by Susan Sleeman, and at least for me, the one with the most surprises! The Nighthawk series is about the five Bryd brothers, and the last one features their sister in law. They are all either former military or with police background, and they formed a protection and investigation agency. This book is about the fourth brother, Drake. I loved getting to see a bit of his softer side in this book. It was soo cute!
Natalie Dunn, a county social worker, had her suspicions about her newest case, the Gentry family. But she’s horrified to learn that the father of her clients is a serial killer who’s killed multiple women. She goes to her friend Malone Reed for help, and Malone points her to Nighthawk Security. Drake Bryd, a former U.S. Marshal, is determined to help this brave and beautiful woman. But will he be able to not only protect Natalie but also the three children in their care.
Natalie was such an interesting character to me. She had a lot of family issues in her past, and it pushed her to help these kids who were like her. She was adorable with the Gentry kids, and they simply loved her. But she still didn’t let anyone get too close. She was trying so hard to keep all these walls around her, but the whole Byrd family wore her down especially Drake. I loved seeing the sweet side of Drake in this book!
In the other books, he has the role of the bad guy in the family. He said all of the things that no one else is willing to say. So it was cute to see how soft he was with Natalie. She helped him see how trying to get an adrenaline rush wasn’t the only way to truly live. Instead, it was through quiet moments that were packed with meaning, and the Gentry kids had a huge role in helping him see this. It was funny and sweet to see how awkward Drake was with them. He had no experience with kids, but they quickly wormed their way into his heart. And he’s going to need every skill and resource he has to protect them.
As usual I had no idea where this story was going! Though I was writing this review, I was trying to convince myself that I did in fact see the twists coming(but I totally did not). Of course there were the main twists in the suspense side of the story, but I definitely wasn’t expecting a lot of the other surprises. I try very hard not to do any spoilers, so you will need to read this wonderful book to find out what I’m talking about! I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves clean suspense novels.

Ryder will do whatever it takes to protect Fiona. Threatening notes turn into suspicious break-ins and destructive corporate espionage, and this bodyguard assignment gets even more serious. Can Ryder get to the bottom of the threat before his heart gets too involved?
Book Review:
Well, I loved this book! I read it in one day! Potential Threat is the first book in Tara Grace Ericson’s new series, Black Tower Security. I was excited to read this book because I have loved Ericson’s other contemporary Christian books and this one did not disappoint.
Fiona Raven was a strong woman who felt the need to be perfect. Perfection was the goal that she strived for, but there were times when the weight of being perfect became too heavy. I really liked Fiona, I was able to connect with her really easily. She was strong and stubborn, and she had created a wonderful name for herself. Fiona had to learn that she did not have to put up walls and that she didn’t have to be perfect.
Ryder McClain, oh, I loved him. He was a hero who didn’t know his worth. He had struggled through a rough patch in his life and he was trying to find his footing again. Ryder had a lot of pain to work through, he didn’t know how to trust his instincts. I loved reading about Ryder growing and fighting to protect Fiona. He was such a sweetheart underneath the presence he showed others. Ryder will have to learn to trust his instincts and believe that God knows what he is doing.
Oh, I loved the characters. I felt for them as they struggled to trust God and in a way find themselves. Life had not always been kind and they were working to overcome their pasts. The plot was also so interesting and I was on the edge of my seat reading it. Ryder was trying to protect Fiona from a stalker and it was just so interesting. I love the way that Ericson was able to weave together the romance, faith, and suspense.
Potential Threat was a wonderful book and I would totally recommend it! Potential Threat is a clean Christian suspense book and the first in its series. The suspense was not too scary and the perfect blend for me. I am super excited for the next book in this series.

Now that he’s found her again, Gil intends to spend the rest of his life with her. But it will take all his skill to uncover the truth in time to save Ivy’s life’s work, her own life, and the innocent lives caught in the crossfire.
Book Review:
Soo, I got this book late this afternoon, started it at 8pm and finished it before 11:30. It was sooo good! I have loved all of Blackburn’s books and this one was just as amazing as I had hoped. Malicious Intent is the second book in Lynn H Blackburn’s Defend and Protect series. I have been eagerly waiting for this book ever since I read the first one and it does not disappoint.
Dr. Ivy Collins was a force to be reckoned with, she had a PhD and was the founder and ceo of Hendra, Inc, a company that was ready to begin clinical trials on her cutting-edge prosthetic. Her work has been heralded by many and yet someone is trying to sabotage Hedera and the launch. U.S. Secret Service Agent Gil Dixon can’t believe that he is going to be ruined with his childhood best friends, Ivy. Now that he found her, he doesn’t want to let her go. However things get complicated while they search for the truth behind who is targeting Ivy. Will they find their answers in time to save Ivy’s life work, her own life, and the innocent lives caught in the crossfire?
I loved Ivy! She was a fascinating and cool character, I adored her quirks and the things that made her herself. She was crazy smart and she wanted to help those around her. I really liked how smart and different Ivy was, but how these attributes were thought of as special. She was so considerate of those around her but she was also a bit closed off. She could get hyper focused on things and she wanted so badly for her work to help others. Ivy had to learn to trust Gil and also to allow herself to be vulnerable. She had been by herself for a while, and she was still trying to make up for past mistakes.
Gil was amazing! I also loved him! He was so kind and thoughtful, he had his faults but I really enjoyed reading about him. He had fallen for Ivy hard when he was younger and he had never forgotten her. It was so sweet to read about him caring for her and wanting to keep her safe. He had endured many different trials that made him who he was, and he would do anything to protect those he loved. However Gil had to learn to trust God and to understand that Ivy was a capable woman.
Gil and Ivy were perfect together, obviously. I loved their banter and interaction. I really liked how it wasn’t instant love, but instead it was balanced on friendship that had grown. I also liked how their relationship felt real, they didn’t always get along, they weren’t always on the same page, but they focused on what was important.
I love how Blackburn writes relatable characters and yet they feel different. Ivy, Gil and the other characters featured in this book became my friends as I read about them. I could understand their side of things, see their faults, and cheer for them as things started to work out. The side characters in this book were such a wonderful addition, I always enjoy reading about different characters interacting. I am super excited for the next book, I have an idea and I hope I am right.
The suspense in this book was spot on. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and there were so many surprises. I don’t usually enjoy suspense but Blackburn is an auto read for me. I like how she is able to weave a story that interconnects suspense, faith, and romance. There were so many things going on and yet I didn’t feel overwhelmed. I just kept on turning pages until I finished the book, it was that good.
All in all, this was a masterpiece. Malicious Intent definitely needs to be on your TBR. It is the must read of 2022, I could not recommend it more. Malicious Intent is a clean Christian suspense book. I will say that this is a suspense book with some violent, graphic scenes so I would recommend using discretion. It is the second in the series, so it is best read in order but it can be read standalone.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

Dandelion “Andi” Bloom has sacrificed a lot for her career in the Army. Now that she’s retired, playing security guard at Bloom’s Farm for high-profile events is a welcome change of pace. Despite their mutual disdain, Andi and Ross must work together to provide security for the farm and the candidate. As the assignment goes on, it becomes impossible not to clash over every decision—and even harder to deny their growing chemistry.
Book Review:
This was a wonderful way to end this lovely series. I was super excited to see that Andi was finally getting her own book, and it was just as good as I had hoped. Dancing with Dandelion is the sixth and final book in Tara Grace Ericson’s Bloom Sisters series.
Andi was definitely a fun character, she was spunky and fierce. I actually don’t usually like these kinds of characters, but I adored Andi. She was a hard worker and she loved her family. I liked reading about Andi as she tried to find her place in life, she was leaving the Army and starting out again. It was sweet to read about her interacting with her family and learning to trust God with her life plans. I loved her interactions with Ross, they were so much fun together. Andi was a stubborn woman and she had to learn to let Ross in, learning that God is the one in control of all.
Ross was also a great character. He came off as more of a jerk at first, but once I got to read more about him I ended up really liking him. He was kind and determined. He was a Secret Service agent and he understood that his job was to protect those under his care. He was strong and capable but he also had to learn to be still and trust God. I liked reading about Ross as he fell for Andi and as he learned that he didn’t need to go through life alone.
Andi and Ross were great characters and I enjoyed reading about them falling in love. They were more enemies to lovers, but it never felt hostile. I liked how they were able to be professional and yet they still said how they felt. They were a really great match. The plot was also interesting, Andi and Ross had to work together to protect Andi’s family on the farm. I liked how Ericson was able to weave in the suspense without changing the genre or the feel of the series. I could not put this book down, I was really interested in finding out what was going to happen next.
I loved the cameos of old characters, the Bloom family is always so much fun to read about. I also saw hints of a new series and I am so excited to see what else Ericson will write. Dancing with Dandelion was a great book and I would definitely recommend it! Dancing with Dandelion is a clean contemporary Christian book with a bit of suspense.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

What they’ll discover is that revenge has no statute of limitations.
Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn closes out her nail-biting Dive Team Investigations series with a story that will have you wondering how long you can hold your breath.
Book Review:
One Final Breath by Lynn H Blackburn is the final book in the Dive Team series. I have been eagerly waiting for his book and I am so happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. I loved this book, Ms. Blackburn’s books kept on getting better!
One Final Breath is the last book in the series and it follows the last of our characters, Gabe and Anissa! I have been waiting to read about Gabe and Anissa, they started off as enemies but as they helped their friends fight their demons, they became great friends.
Gabe had an air of mystery about him, he used to be an undercover agent but then he was exposed by a local reporter. He had a hidden past and he came off as rough, but underneath all of that he was a kind man who loved his friends. I really liked Gabe and it was so interesting to finally learn more about him. He had to learn what it meant to let people in and I was anxious right along with him as he tried to figure out the case he was given.
Anissa was really amazing, in the first two books you can see that all of the others really respect him. At first, Anissa and Gabe get off on the wrong foot, but as they worked together they began to see the other as a partner and someone they can trust. The suspense was great, I couldn’t put this book done because I needed to know what would happen. I loved how Gabe and Anissa came together and you finally got to learn more about both of them.s
It was a wonderful conclusion to the series, and I loved seeing the other characters again. Ms. Blackburn is my favorite suspense writer and I would definitely recommend One Final Breath if you like suspense.

With so many people counting on her to complete the project, giving in to old feelings is a distraction neither she or Erik can afford, and they both need to keep watch. Especially in the darkest hours of the night, when the killer comes out to play.
Another thrilling book to add to the Nighthawk series! This is the last book about the Byrd brothers, and Erik, the baby of the family, finally gets a book. He has a lot of issues to work out first though, especially with his ex-girlfriend. This was a second chance romance which I always think is really cute. But it also has plenty of suspense and action in it too!
Kennedy Walker is not obsessed or crazy even if everyone seems to think she is. She knows her mother’s death wasn’t an accident or sucide. Her suspicions are confirmed when a man breaks into mother’s home and almost kills her. She ends up being saved by her ex-boyfriend, Erik Bryd. Erik has never forgiven Kennedy for breaking his heart, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t determined to protect her. As more and more secrets come out though, will Erik be able to not only protect Kennedy but also open up his heart again?
I loved Kennedy’s character! She was so strong without ever losing her compassion and kindness. I loved how practical she was too. Sometimes, in these sorts of series, the women try hard to be included in various dangerous situations. While I admire their strength, I feel like it’s not always very wise. The Bryd brothers’ jobs are to be bodyguards, so I love how Kennedy trusted and listened to them.
Erik was a sweetheart too! While he understood why Kennedy had to break up with him, it was still hard for him to trust her. But I felt like it was a believable fear especially since he had recently been cheated on too. I loved how much he cared for Kennedy though. I was really happy that they avoided keeping secrets from each other too. It always causes more problems, so I’m happy they avoided that unnecessary drama!
I had a harder time staying interested in the story this time, but it was still a fascinating plot. There were a lot of different things going on, and I was quite surprised by who the real villain was. I would have loved a stronger Christian thread, but I’m happy to say this was still clean. There was a brief mention of an individual having sex with someone who they were not married too, but other than that the romance and action are all clean. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s into romantic suspense! I can’t wait to see where Ms. Sleeman takes Malone’s story next 🙂
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Title: Flight Risk Author: Cara Puttman Publisher: Thomas Nelson Release Date: April 7, 2020 Genre: Christian Suspense
Bestselling author Cara Putman returns with a romantic legal thriller that will challenge the assumptions of truth tellers everywhere.
Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build her law practice, to surround herself with good friends, and to be the loyal aunt her troubled niece can always count on. But since her ex-husband’s betrayal, she has trouble trusting anyone.
Jett Glover’s father committed suicide over a false newspaper report that ruined his reputation. Now a fierce champion of truth, Jett is writing the story of his journalism career—an international sex-trafficking exposé that will bring down a celebrity baseball player and the men closest to him, including Savannah’s ex-husband.
When Jett’s story breaks, tragedy ensues. Then a commercial airline crashes, and one of Savannah’s clients is implicated in the crash. Men connected to the scandal, including her ex, begin to die amid mysterious circumstances, and Savannah’s niece becomes an unwitting target.
Against their better instincts, Jett and Savannah join ranks to sort the facts from fiction. But can Savannah trust the reporter who threw her life into chaos? And can Jett face the possibility that he’s made the biggest mistake of his life?
Book Review:
Flight Risk was one of those books where everything is going wrong for almost every single character in the book. And something that I liked about the book was that not all the problems were solved by the end of it. The characters still had a lot of problems, but they had each other and they had God. They made a conscious decision that they would let go off of their past hurts and trust that what they had was enough.
Flight Risk is about a reporter named Jett Glover who printed an article about four people who go to Thailand, party and do all sorts of horrible things with young girls. One of the men happens to be Savannah Daniel’s ex husband. While the article devastates Savannah’s niece, it does not cause any real damage until the men in the article start to end up dead. Savannah suspects that something deeper is going on, but Jett is convinced that what he wrote is the truth. However, he starts to work with her to find out why someone is so determined to kill the men in his article. And because it’s a romantic suspense novel they fall in love.
I actually enjoyed FlightRisk a lot more than I thought I would. Even when I read romantic suspense, I do not usually read the most intense books, so I wasn’t used to Cara Putman’s style. But I thought the characters were really interesting and the twists and the turns of the book were shocking. I liked Savannah right away, but I had to warm up to Jett. He’s quite arrogant, and he has a lot of issues with his childhood which makes him act like a jerk sometimes. However, I ended up really liking him because he’s loyal and steady even if he is overzealous.
I really enjoyed Flight Risk, and I definitely would recommend it. But I didn’t read the other books in the series, and while I understood the book completely, I think I would have enjoyed it better with the other books. This book is an adult book, but I don’t think that there was anything inappropriate for a teen. There are some heavier themes, but nothing too bad. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
