Book Review:

This was a fun and engaging book! I had enjoyed the first book in this series so I was excited to see how the second book would turn out. Hostile Intent is the second book in Tara Grace Ericson’s Black Tower Security series

Joey and Cole were cute together. They did not get along at first but it was sweet to read about them connecting and breaking past each other’s walls. I really liked the progression of their relationship and how they learned to trust each other. They were really sweet together as they learned to let go of the past and let others in. They had been through a lot so they were both a little jaded.

I really liked the characters and their development. They felt real and relatable. I also love how Ericson is able to sprinkle faith and God so easily into her books. The characters go through life but they are also challenged to trust and rely on God more.

The plot was interesting and I was engaged in the story from the beginning. I wanted to know how Joey and Cole were going to save Cole’s company. It was fun to read about Joey going from suspecting Cole to falling in love. The romance didn’t feel rushed and I think that it had the perfect amount of suspense. There was suspense and mystery but it didn’t feel scary.

This was a good book and I would recommend Hostile Intent to those who enjoy Christian romantic suspense. I am super excited for the next book in the series and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Book Review:

Ethan was a sweetheart! He had been through a lot, and he had a lot of trust issues. His ex wife had abandoned him, and he was just trying to cope. It was a bit frustrating at first because he opened his heart to Lacey and then closed it again. But I think that’s pretty realistic too because it’s hard to change your entire mindset in one day.

Lacey was going through a lot too. She had experienced a difficult childhood, and those wounds had stayed with her. It was sweet to watch her open up again to Ethan and the twins. I think while I understood where Lacey and Ethan came from I had a harder time connecting with them and getting into their characters.

I had similar troubles with the story. It was super sweet and a lot of fun. But I had a difficult time really getting into it.

However, I would still recommend this book to anyone who loves a cowboy romance! It’s an adorable read with clean, lighthearted romance!

Hope for the Hero: A Christian Bodyguard Christmas Romance by [Mandi Blake]

Title: Hope for the Hero
Series: Heroes of Freedom Ridge #16
Author: Mandi Blake
Release Date: November 9th, 2022
Genre: Christian Contemporary Romance

She’s his opposite, and opposites don’t attract. So why is she impossible to resist?

Tessa Mitchell is finally getting a chance to work at her brother’s private security firm, and after one hundred other jobs that didn’t work out, this one needs to stick. Headquarters could use a makeover anyway. Oh, and she’s working for up-tight Adam. Ruffling his meticulous feathers should be fun.

Adam Roberts doesn’t need an assistant, especially not flighty Tessa. If she’d let him get a word in between her constant questions, he’d save her the trouble. She’s not meant to work in the security field.

Except, Tessa is intelligent underneath all that flirty chatter, and Adam can’t focus when she’s around. The smart thing to do would be to shut down the feelings and put some space between them. Instead, they’re sent out of town for work. Together.

When a snowstorm descends on their first co-assignment, will a change in the weather cause a change in their hearts?

Book Review:

Another wonderful book.  I have been so lucky and the past few books that I have read have been really good and this book is no different. Hope for the Hero is the 16th book in the Heroes of Freedom Ridge series. I have loved Blake’s additions to the series and this was just as good as I had hoped.

Adam and Tessa were so much fun to read about! Tessa was just so full of life. I really enjoyed reading from Tessa’s perspectives and learning more about her. She was constantly trying new things, but she was also trying to prove herself. Tessa had to learn to find her worth in Christ and trust that God was working out all things. I love how Tessa stayed true to her convictions.

Adam was such a complicated character, but I loved reading about him. He had been hurt in the past and he had closed himself off. Adam had a lot to work through but I loved seeing him grow. He had to learn to give it all to God and trust that God was good even when life was hard. I love how Adam always seemed to encourage Tessa to hope for the best and never settle.

I really liked reading about Adam and Tessa interacting together. They balanced each other. It was sweet to read about them interacting and connecting with each other. They helped each other be better and it was sweet to read about. It was fun to read about them both growing and learning to trust God more. I love how Blake is able to weave faith into her stories

Hope for the Hero is a must read and was just a wonderful read. Hope for the Hero is a clean Christian romance book. I would recommend it to those who enjoy sweet romances with faith woven into the story.

Guest Post:

We are excited to share a guest post from Kate Angelo the author of Driving Force. 🙂

As a genre, romantic suspense lends itself to a complex story with exciting plot twists and deep character development I find captivating. It’s one of my favorite genres to read and write because I’m fascinated how deeply wounded characters set aside their differences and work together under extreme pressure to bring down a villain. When writing romantic suspense, I explore ways my character’s past affects how they approach the external plot. Will she run into danger, or bury her head and hide? Will he take the lead, or will he step back and allow the heroine to guide them? Motivation mingled with the life experiences and personality of the character will dictate their response and it’s a challenge to write. But by the end, two imperfect people become enlightened and discover the internal obstacles holding them back from their greatest desires which leads us to their happily ever after—and that perfect kiss!

Besides digging into the characters, romantic suspense adds a level of tension you may not find in other thriller and suspense novels. Two imperfect people juggling life and their own hindrances is one thing but throw in the need to survive or save lives and now we’re really cranking up the pressure. Personally, I love reading books with smart villains whose motivation is something greater than evil for the sake of evil. Add some bleeding edge technology or scientific research and I’m all in!

Recently, I wrote a romantic suspense novel with a phytologist heroine. If you’re unsure what a phytologist is, you’re not alone. After all, how many times have you found yourself discussing algae with others? Oddly enough, I have! While drafting the novel, I went to lunch with a group of friends and met a scientist who is a botanist, psychologist, and phytologist. I’ll admit, for the first time in my life I was excited to discuss algae! I was able to share some new research in an area he was passionate about and chat for hours about the live saving properties of this new type of algae.

Bringing the reader along for an investigation is another element of romantic suspense I love. Even if I know who the villain is, I’m intrigued by the motivation behind the evil and learning the secrets they keep. I want a villain with a wound so deep it drives them to hurt others. It sounds terrible, but I suppose it’s because I like a hint of psychological thriller in my suspense novels.

In the end, I believe I chose to write romantic suspense because I like layering in complexity and digging deep to deliver a story that keeps you on your toes, not only because lives are at risk, but because the reader is in suspense over whether two flawed characters can overcome their issues and find their happily ever after. Oh…and because I’m a huge nerd and I get to delve deep into researching psychology, phytology, biochemical engineering, and all the other sciences!

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Years ago, he shattered her heart. Now she must trust him with her life.

As the only girl in her family, and with four older brothers, Ivy McQuaid can rope and ride with the roughest of ranchers. She’s ready to have what she’s always longed for–a home of her own. She’s set her heart on a parcel of land south of Fairplay and is saving for it with her winnings from the cowhand competitions she sneaks into–but her dream is put in jeopardy when the man she once loved reappears in her life.

After two years away, Jericho Bliss is back in South Park as an undercover Pinkerton agent searching for a war criminal. He has no intention of involving a woman in the dangerous life he leads, but one look at Ivy is all it takes for him to question the path he’s set out for himself.

Even though Jericho tries to resist his longtime attraction to the beautiful and vivacious Ivy, he finds himself falling hard and fast for her. In the process, his worst fear comes true–he puts her smack-dab in the middle of danger. With Ivy’s life in the balance, will Jericho give her up once again, or will he find a way back to her, this time forever?

Book Review:

This was just as good as the others! I have loved the past books in this series, so I had high hopes for this one and it did not disappoint. Falling for the Cowgirl is the fourth book in Jody Hedlund’s Colorado Cowboys series. We finally get to read about Ivy and see her get her happy ending, and let me just say it was so good!

Ivy was definitely a fun character to read about, and she was so feisty and full of life. However, she was still trying to find herself and figure out what she wanted to do. I loved how independent Ivy was but also how she tried to trust her brothers. Ivy was so sweet and her interactions with her brothers were cute but I also loved how she didn’t let them push her around. Ivy was strong but Jericho had a way of reaching past her walls. Jericho truly saw Ivy and loved her even though she was more “wild” and “adventurous.”

Jericho was complicated but I loved him. He cared for Ivy and her family, but he also tried to stay away because he wanted to protect her. He had a dangerous job and his past kept him wary of letting people in.

Ivy and Jericho were the perfect match and I loved reading about their interactions. They were both so fiery and full of life. Their romance was sweet and it was fun to read about their reconnecting. They had known each other for a long time, but they left on a bad note when Jericho left with Dylan. Ivy and Jericho had to learn how to communicate with each other and how to help each other become better people.

The story line was very interesting and I was so invested in this book. I wanted to know how Ivy and Jericho would end up together. I also love how Hedlund is able to weave in faith so seamlessly into her books. Ahh, this book was just amazing! I loved the characters and I am super excited for Dylan’s book!! Judd was also a wonderful character and I loved his parts in this book.

Falling for the Cowgirl is an amazing book and I would totally recommend it! I have loved all of Hedlund’s books and this one was no different. However I do think that this one is better enjoyed as part of the series. Falling for the Cowgirl is a clean Christian historical romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

The Only Exception

Publisher: Mandi Blake
Release Date: September 17th, 2022

She was supposed to figure out his secret, not fall in love.

Cheyenne Keeton took a job that seemed too good to be true: find out what cowboy Ridge Cooper loves most and her ailing mom’s care bills are completely covered. When she gets the job as Ridge’s assistant at a dude ranch in Wyoming, it sounds like her investigation will be easy.

But he’s not at all like the monster she heard about. Invading the privacy he loves so much feels wrong. When Ridge trusts her and lets her in, showing her a love she’d never imagined, she can’t betray him. But backing out of her former deal puts a target on both of their backs.

Cheyenne will do anything to clear his name, but will Ridge forgive her when he finds out what she’s done?

Book Review:

This was just a great book! I was excited for this book and hopeful that I would like it and it was wonderful! The Only Exception is the third book in Mandi Blake’s Wolf Creek Ranch series.

Cheyenne had a past and a desire to provide for her family. Cheyenne was tired and at the end of herself so she took a job to spy on Ridge Cooper never expecting to find a home instead. There were times when I wanted to shake Cheyenne but there were also times when I understood her. She was just trying her best, but she needed to learn that God was the one in control. Cheyenne needed to let go of her past hurts and look to the future.

Ridge had so much hidden in him. It was so interesting to learn more about him and see past his walls. He was fiercely loyal but that could get him into some trouble. Ridge was a wonderful character and I was drawn to his story from the beginning. He had to learn to trust God and those around him.

The characters were engaging and I grew to love Ridge and Cheyenne as I read their story. They both had their struggles but they learned to trust God and each other. I love how faith is prominent in Blake’s books. The plot was engaging, and I was wondering how Ridge and Cheyenne were going to end up together when there were so many secrets between them. The side characters are always a lot of fun and I am beyond excited for the next book!

The Only Exception is a must read! It can be read standalone but it is much more fun to read it in order. The Only Exception is a clean, sweet Christian romance. The story draws you in and the characters become your friends.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

Worthy of Legend

About the Book:

Worthy of Legend (The Secrets of the Isles Book #3) by [Roseanna M. White]

Title: Worthy of Legend
Series: The Secrets of the Isles #3
Author: Roseanna M White
Publisher: Bethany House Publishing
Release Date: September 13th, 2022
Genre: Historical Christian Romance

1906

After a summer of successful pirate-treasure hunting, Lady Emily Scofield and her friends must hide the unprecedented discoveries they’ve made, thanks to the betrayal of her own family. Horrified by her brother, who will stop at nothing to prove himself to their greedy father, Emily is forced to take a stand against her family–even if it means being cut off entirely.

Bram Sinclair, Earl of Telford, is fascinated with tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table–an interest he’s kept mostly hidden for the last decade. But when a diary is unearthed on the islands that could lead to a secret artifact, Bram is the only one able to piece the legends together.

As Bram and Emily seek out the whereabouts of the hidden artifact, they must dodge her family and a team of archaeologists. In a race against time, it is up to them to decide what makes a hero worthy of legend. Is it fighting valiantly to claim the treasure . . . or sacrificing everything in the name of selfless love?

Book Review:

Oh this was just a perfect way to end a wonderful series! I have so enjoyed this series and I am sad to see these characters go. Worthy of Legend is the third book in Roseanna M White’s The Secrets of the Isles, and best read in order.

I have been waiting for Bram’s book. It was fun to get to know him through his sister and best friend’s eyes, but it was different reading through his perspective. Bram was a bit of a grumpy character but there was much hidden behind his grumpiness. He was kind and he truly loved his sister. I loved how Bram was aware of others and how he wanted to show Emily that she was loved. It was so sweet to read about him falling for Emily and trying his best to care for her.

Emily was a sweetheart to read about. I loved her character and hair growth. She had been belittled all her life and yet she was trying to stand up for herself and fight for what was right. I enjoyed reading about Emily. She tried to get out of her shell and even do hard things, like befriending her maid. She was scared of letting people know they would leave, but she was learning to try. Emily had to learn to trust God and what it meant to love even those who hurt her.

Emily and Bram were just the cutest together! I loved their relationship and how they brought out the best in each other. They were both learning to trust God’s plans even when life was changing. I also enjoyed their interactions and easy banter

The plot was so engaging and I was not sure how this book was going to end! It was definitely exciting to read as they searched for the treasure. I also adored the side characters and the side romance! On my goodness, it was so cute and a wonderful addition to the study. I would warn though there is mention of sexual abuse, nothing shown just implied. However all in all this was a wonderful book and it was such a joy to read!

Worthy of Legend was a legendary book and my new favorite by White! I mean her book just keeps on getting better! I am excited to see what she will write next. This book needs to be on your TBR. Worthy of Legend is a clean historica Christian book however there is mentions of sexual abuse, physical abuse and some violence. I would recommend it to those at least 13 years and older

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required. .

Bring Her Home

About the Book:

Bring Her Home (Crown of Promise Book 1) by [Hannah Currie]

Title: Bring Her Home
Series: Crown of Promise #1
Author: Hannah Currie
Publisher: White Crown Publishing
Release Date: September 15th, 2022
Genre: Historical Romance

Since the morning he woke to find his precious daughter gone with only the remains of their latest argument left behind, King Lior has been praying she’d come home. For four years now, he’s prayed and searched, sending his best knights to find Evangeline, only to hear nothing. Until the day their missive arrives with three words: we’ve found her. He sends one right back with orders to bring her home.

But that order isn’t easily achieved. Evangeline, now a lowly servant, has no plans to return. Though the knights claim her father still loves her, she knows the truth: he’d cast her aside as quickly as everyone else if he knew how far she’d truly fallen. She can’t go home. Not with her scars. Or her failures. Or her son.

Only, the knights won’t leave without her. And just as she starts to wonder if maybe they might be right, the choice is taken from her altogether.

Sir Darrek thought the hardest part of his quest would be finding Evangeline. He had no idea how difficult it would be to get her home.

Book Review:

This book broke my heart a little bit. It is honest, touching, and incredibly emotional. Currie does not hold back, and she expertly reimagines the story of the prodigal son. I love the way she retold this story without losing its roots. Bring Her Home is the first book in Hannah Currie’s new series, Crown of Promise.

Evangeline was such a wonderful but broken character. She had lost all of her dignity, and she literally thought she was nothing. She was listening to all the lies in her head telling her that she wasn’t enough, yet she knew the truth about the Father who was waiting for her. I loved the story of her redemption, and it beautifully pictures how Christ brings us to Himself. However, I think it felt a little bit incomplete. The book touched on how she surrendered herself to God, but it didn’t go into great depths. Even though the symbolism of her going back to her father was beautiful, I would have loved a more clear gospel presentation.

I loved Darrek! He was such a sweetheart, and he adored Evangeline from the beginning. He never thought of her as lesser because of her scars or because of her son. It was sweet to watch him learn how to love and help Evangeline including letting her come to her father at her own pace. I would have loved to see a more clear ending for Darrek’s struggle in this book. He had a hard time learning how to trust God with Evangeline, but I felt like that arc was left hanging.

The storyline and pace of this was amazing! I loved reading it even though it made my heart hurt. There were times when I had a harder time getting into it, but it was still a beautiful read. Though you may need some tissues near you:)

This is a clean read that I would recommend to any lovers of Christian fiction. It is a retelling of the prodigal son, so Evangeline has experienced some horrible things. She is depressed, cuts herself, and has a son with her father’s enemy out of wedlock. However, it is a hopeful read about the power of God’s grace, and nothing goes into great detail.

Book Review:

This had a wonderful redemption story about learning from mistakes and changing for the better. I was definitely excited to read this book especially because I already knew the characters a bit. To Win a Prince is Toni Shiloh’s new book and it is set in the same world as In Search of a Prince. It is actually about Iris and Ekon.

Iris was so fun, she was very expressive and worked hard. Iris wanted to help the women on the island create a life for themselves but there were so many obstacles in her way. I loved how Iris strove to see the good in people. However Iris was struggling, she was finding herself falling for Ekon. She wanted to protect her heart but she also longed for a romance to sweep her off her feet. Iris had to learn to wait on God’s timing and trust in God’s plan even when her life feels crazy.

Oh, I felt for Ekon. He was a bit of a spoiled jerk at first, but he quickly grew on me. He grew up with comfort and means, and he had to learn what it meant to humble himself. I really enjoyed reading about his growth and seeing him being open to learning and changing. He worked hard and underneath his attitude, he was a kind man. Ekon had to learn to let go of his pride and turn to God. He had to be willing to be brought low so that he might become a better man.

Ekon and Iris were sweet to read about. They felt a connection for each other, but they both were fighting against it. I loved their interactions and their eazy conversations. They were just so cute and they learned to care for each other.

The story was really interesting. Ekon was fighting to redeem himself and Iris was fighting for her business. I was really investing and I read this book so quickly. I am crossing my fingers that more books will come from this world because I saw some hints of other couples.

To Win a Prince was wonderful and even better than the first! I loved the characters and I grew to know them. I also enjoyed the faith that Shiloh wrove into the story, God was truly present in this story. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy Christian contemporary romances. To Win a Prince is a clean Christian contemporary romance.

Book Review:

Yes! This book was just a wonderful conclusion to an amazing series. I have so loved this series and I am so sad to see it end. I am crossing my fingers for a companion series. Entrusted is the sixth and final book in Jody Hedlund’s Knights of Brethren Series. And boy was it worth the wait.

I loved Birgitta. She was an amazing character. She was so strong and stubborn. Birgitta was a princess and raised by her brother. She was fearless and loved her people. Birgitta was unafraid to fight for what she believed in. It was sweet to see this strong woman fall for Kristoffer and learn that she doesn’t always have to be strong. Kristoffer helped Birgitta be herself and didn’t fault her for being different. But Birgitta would have to figure out what she was willing to risk to get the fighting to stop.

Kristoffer was also a great character. It was fun to get to know Kristoffer more. He seemed like such a focused series character, it was cool to get to see a different side of him. Kristoffer was loyal to a fault and he was doing his best to serve his king. He strived to prove himself worthy not only to his king, but also to his father. Kristoffer had to figure out if he was willing to defy his father in order to fight for the greater good.

Kristoffer and Birgitta were a cute couple. They connected with each other right away. It was fun to see them interacting, they had such good banter. They were more of enemies to lovers but they fell quickly. I don’t usually like insta love but I feel as if it fits the book and pace. Kristoffer and Birgitta helped each other be better people and they understood each other.

Entrusted is a wonderful book and I would definitely recommend it! I would recommend this whole series. It does need to be read in order though because the books follow each other. Entrusted was engaging and the characters were wonderful. It was so exciting to see the series come to an end! Entrusted is a clean historical romance.
