Cassidy Edgemont has been dead for four years. At least, that is what the world has been led to believe. After becoming unwittingly entangled in a group called the Coalition, known for using fake news to generate political unrest in the United States, Cas was offered a devastating choice: stage her own death and join her rescuers, the guardians, or risk the wrath of the organization she betrayed. She chose death.

As an invisible government operative, Cas has been living in Paris with no complications—until her family pays an unexpected visit to the European city, changing everything. They think Cas is dead, and she has to keep it that way. But when a bomb is detonated nearby and fake news incites riots in the city, Cas recognizes the mark of the Coalition.

Donovan, a fellow guardian, is summoned to join her in Paris to attempt to untangle the intricate web linking Cas’s past with the recent bombings. But as the threat level escalates, Cas must again make an impossible decision: face possible exposure to her family in her race to uncover the truth or risk the loss of innocent lives.

Book Review:

Another winner by Traci Hunter Abramson! Not Dead Yet is the sixth book in Traci Hunter Abramson’s Guardian series. I have to admit that I haven’t read the first five yet but it did not take away from the amazing book except that there were some characters who I did not really know, but otherwise it was great!

Cassidy Edgemont was a great character, she really drew me in from the beginning. I loved reading about Cas and reading about her trying to save her family. She had suffered a lot and lost a lot, but she was still trying to do the right thing through it all. It was definitely sweet to read about her interacting with Donovan and learning to trust him though. Cas was so strong and I just loved her character throughout the book

Donovan was also lovely. I loved him from the beginning. It was fun to read from his perspective and see him learning to trust Cas, and then falling in love. He was also a guardian and he wanted to find his own family. Donovan worked hard to protect Cas and help their mission.

Donovan and Cas were cute together and I definitely loved reading about their interactions. However romance was not the only thing that kept this book going. There was suspense and mystery. Oh my goodness, I was on the edge of my seat reading this book. I didn’t know what was going to happen or how Cas was going to protect her family. It was so exciting and I was engaged the whole time

Not Dead Yet was wonderful! I loved everything about it! It was fun to see the other characters, I need to go read their books. I would definitely recommend Not Dead Yet. Not Dead Yet is a clean romantic suspense book.

Book Review:

This was just so cute and fun! I loved everything about it. I have not read any books by Britney M. Mills but I have now just added a bunch of books to my TBR! Matched with her Fake Fiance is the second book in Britney M. Mills’ new series Romance by Love, Austen.

Dani was a breath of fresh air. I loved her honestly and how she worked so hard. She was trying to make a life for herself, but nothing was going according to plan. She never expected to be fake dating someone and then ending up fake engaged to the same guy, but that was where she was. Dani was sweet as she interacted with Miles. I loved how Dani was able to calm Miles and help be himself. But Dani would have to figure out if falling in love was worth the risk of her heart.

Miles was also a wonderful character! I liked him from the beginning. He carried such a heavy burden on his shoulders, but I loved how he could just relax around Dani. It was cute to read about him falling in love and wanting to care for Dani. Miles had to learn what he wanted, will he keep on following his mother’s lead or will he find his own path.

I loved the chemistry between Miles and Dani, they really helped each other. The side characters were also a lot of fun! Miles’ friends and Dani’s roommates all need their own books. Dani’s family was also fun, I liked reading about their interaction. All in all this was a pretty great book!

The characters were just a lot of fun to read about and the story was so easy to read. I have been trudging through my ARCs but this one was a breeze to read. I liked the characters and I wanted to see how this book would end. I actually ended up reading it in one day, it was just that good! I would totally recommend Matched with her Fake Fiance. I am also really excited for the next book, I have no idea who it will be about but I cannot wait!

Betsy

About the Book:

Betsy: A Sweet Romantic Comedy (Sewing in SoCal Book 5) by [Sarah Monzon]

Title: Betsy
Series: Sewing in SoCal #5
Author: Sarah Monzon
Release Date: June 13th, 2022
Genre: Rom-com

Rule #1. Never fall for a musician
Rule #2. There are no exceptions to rule #1

As a professional sound engineer, I’m around musicians every day, so I know what I’m talking about when I say they aren’t boyfriend material. They’re only looking out for number one, and that ain’t you, honey. Give them a map with destination Not on Your Life, Mister highlighted, underlined, and circled for good measure.

That being said, what am I supposed to do with Asher North, lead singer of the band True North and my new boss? My glares don’t intimidate him, and my sarcasm only seems to draw him closer instead of pushing him away. The longer we’re on tour together, the less my rules make sense. And the more he looks at me the way he does, as if he can see right through the wall I’ve so diligently constructed, the more I want to throw those rules right out the window.

Book Review:

The end of the Sewing in SoCal series! This was such a fun series. I loved seeing Betsy’s happily ever after. It was so cute to watch her find her match, and I loved seeing the reasons behind some of her hostility. And we got to see all the rest of the gang again too!

Betsy is not a fan of musicians. And she is determined to never become one or date one, but when Asher North, a Christian artist, works with her, he starts proving her wrong on every turn. He’s kind, humble, and honestly trying to follow God. But will she be able to put aside her prejudice and actually trust him?

Betsy was super sarcastic and kinda harsh in all the books, but she had such a big heart. She genuinely loves her friends and her families, and I love how Asher saw that side of her right away. It was sweet to see how he liked all of her though, her snarky comments and her big heart. And the big reveal of why Betsy doesn’t like musicians was quite satisfying. It felt really fresh and different in a way that fit her personality.

Asher was a sweetheart! He was such a good guy, and he really was trying to love God and love people. While I thought it was sweet how he tried to balance showing interest in Betsy and pursuing her without pushing himself on her , I think he was a bit too pushy sometimes.

The plot itself was fun! It is a bit rushed, but I felt like it fit the rom com vibe. But I would have loved to have more conversations with the two of them. This is a clean romance with some innuendo. I would recommend it to anyone who likes rom coms!

My rules as Mr. Fake Date? Weddings only. Kissing has a surcharge. And catching feelings is absolutely forbidden. What could go wrong?

As a professional wedding date, I have strict boundaries.

Feelings make things messy, and I need this side gig because my pay as an active-duty Marine isn’t nearly enough to cover my old man’s medical bills.

Then my pops shocks me with one of those gut-wrenching “Make me a promise, son” kinda talks, saying he wants me to give up this fake-dating business and find something real.

But then the bookish stunner I’ve been low-key crushing on for over a year suddenly needs my services.

And even though this gorgeous woman and her beautifully different brain could be the one to make me risk it all, I’ll be her perfect fake date … and then I’ll walk away.

Because despite the promise I made to my pops, I won’t fall in love with her only to lose her like I’ve lost everybody else.

I can’t.

Book Review:

I always love love love Jess Mastorakos books and this was just another amazing book! The Fake Date is about Lyndi and it is the fourth book in Jess Mastorakos’ Brides of Beaufort series.

I loved learning more about Lyndi. She had been in previous books but you did not know that much about her. I loved Lyndi’s little quirks and the things that made her different. She was introverted, a bookworm, and overthink everything. She was just such a relatable character. It was fun to read about Lyndi as she figured out how to be herself and how to let others in. She was a wonderful character. Lyndi would have to figure out if Beau was worth the uncertainty of life, he was a Marine and there was no guarantee of where he would end up.

Beau was also a sweetheart. I was so excited to see that he was going to end up with Lyndi. Beau was a fake date for hire but he was also kind. He did enjoy his side job but he never let anyone in. He had lost people at a young age and he was guarded. However when he agrees to fake date Lyndi, he finds himself opening up. She had a way of breaking down his walls. Beau will have to decide if Lyndi is worth it and if he is willing to risk love.

Beau and Lyndi were a sweet couple. I really liked how they were able to connect with each other and how they truly saw the other person. Beau and Lyndi were both people who put up walls but around each other they could be themselves. The romance was so sweet and cute. They did have some bumps to go over especially since they were fake dating. However I never felt like the book was awkward or moving too fast or slow.

The side characters were fun and I love seeing cameos. Mastorakos does cameos so well! The relationship between the main group of friends is always a lot of fun because they get each other. I am super excited for the next book! Chase has been a side character in so many books and it is cool that he finally gets his own book!

The Fake Date was amazing as Mastorakos’ books always are! I would definitely recommend this book! I am also counting down the days until the next book, The Contract. The Fake Date is a clean contemporary Marine romance.

Almost Everything is the second book in the Christian romance Wolf Creek Ranch series.

Book Review:

This was just a sweet book! I enjoy reading Mandi Blake’s books because they always shine Christ throughout the book and they have happily ever afters. Almost Everything was another wonderful book! I was excited to see how this book would turn out and it was really good!

Everly was such a sweet character, she was really thoughtful and kind. I liked Everly from the beginning and I felt so bad for her as she tried to pick up the pieces of her life. She had everything until it all crashed and burned. I loved how strong Everly was and how she tried to lean on God even when her life felt crazy. However Everly also had to learn how to stand up for herself and how to rest in God’s plan.

Blake was a fun character. He had loved Everly for a long time but he stayed away because she was engaged. However now she was single but she was also reeling from her break up. I liked how honorable Blake was and how he respected Everly. He didn’t try to push his feelings on her. It was cute to read about him interacting with Everly and seeing how much he liked her. He really cared for and he wanted her to be happy. Blake would have to learn how to listen to Everly and not just try to fix things for her.

Blake and Everly were fun to read about together. They had an easy chemistry especially because they had a lot of history together. Blake was Everly’s brother’s best friend and he was also her friend. I liked the easy interactions. It was interesting to read about them falling in love and working through their struggles. They had a lot of hurdles to jump over.

I really liked the side characters and I spotted at least two different books in the making! I liked Everly’s brother, Ridge, and I am super excited for him to get his own book. It looks like there is going to be quite a story.

Almost Everything was a lovely read and I would totally recommend it! The characters are sweet and I love how faith is woven so seamlessly into the story. Almost Everything is a clean Christian contemporary romance.

But when Society gossip, a sister’s jealousy, and long-held secrets threaten their budding relationship, the unlikely couple must determine if their unconventional love is strong enough to withstand the opposition they face.

Book Review:

This book was just too cute! I loved everything about it. Edward and Amelia is Karen Thornell’s second regency book, and it was even better than her first! Edward and Amelia is such a fun book. Marriages of convenience are one of my favorite troupes and this was just amazing!

Okay so first I loved the characters; they felt so real and relatable. I was able to connect with them right from the start. They were fascinating to read about, and I loved seeing behind their walls. The plot was absolutely fantastic and I loved reading about Edward and Amelia connecting. There were just a lot of amazing moments, and the side characters were also lovely.

Amelia was super sweet but she was also fiery and full of life. I felt for her as she had to endure her family. It was fun to read about her interacting with Edward, there were times when she was able to be herself. I loved Amelia from the beginning and I really enjoyed her growth throughout the book. She learned to be herself and to trust Edward. But Amelia will have to decide if she is willing to risk her heart for love.

Ah, Edward, poor Edward. He had a lot going and honestly he was a mess at times but I adored him. Edward had been putting up a front for society for so long and now he was trying to figure out who he truly was. Edward didn’t believe in marriage and yet he found himself married to Amelia. There were times when he started to believe it could work, but Edward had to learn to fight for Amelia and figure out how to love her.

All in all, this book was simply amazing! I would totally recommend it! I loved everything about it, the characters were engaging and the story was interesting. I read it in one day. Edward and Amelia is a clean regency romance.

Book Review:

Ahhh, I just adored this book! It was simply perfect. Almost Sure is the third book in Claire Cain’s Back to Silver Ridge. This was just so much fun! I have been waiting for Julian to get his own book and it was just as good as I had hoped.

Quinn was a fun character, she was stubborn and knew how to get her way but she was also at the end of her rope. Quinn was trying to do so much and she just didn’t know if she could handle it anymore. But she still tried. It was sweet to read about Julian trying to help her and Quinn learning to let him. She was warrying of trusting people, but Julian managed to break past her walls. However Quinn will have to learn that accepting help from others isn’t a bad thing and that she doesn’t have to do everything on her own.

Julian was such an interesting character. He had a lot of quirks and it was cool to finally get to know more about him. Although he came off a bit standoffish, he was kind and he cared for those around him. I really liked Julian and it was fun to read about him interacting with Quinn and to read his thoughts. Julian had to work through what it would mean to love Quinn and if it was worth it.

The characters were on point and it was so fun to get to know Quinn and to see Jamie again. I love getting to see old characters. Quinn’s daughter, Cara was also a great addition to the book. I found her relationship with Julian so sweet. The romance was so sweet and I really liked the progression. It did not feel too fast or rushed. Quinn and Julian were so different and yet they were perfect for each other. They were able to be themselves and trust the other to still love them.

Almost Sure was a wonderful book. The characters were engaging and I was drawn into the story from the beginning. I really enjoyed this book and I am beyond excited for the next one. Almost Sure is a closed door contemporary romance.

Genre: Rom-com

I spent the night with a hot, grumpy stranger in an airport hotel.

No, not like that. Get your mind out of the gutter. It was just sleeping. And… maybe a little cuddling.

Long story short, I embarrassed the heck out of myself. But at least I never have to see him again.

Except the universe is clearly out to get me, because Monday morning, I arrive at my new job and who’s the first person I see?

Hot stranger himself: Liam Donovan.

AKA my new boss.

AKA Annie, you are so freaking screwed.

While the HR rulebook doesn’t explicitly say you can’t share a bed with your boss, I can read between the lines. And I need this job.

Which is why I have to pretend that night never happened. Luckily for me, sexy as Liam—excuse me, Mr. Donovan—is, he’s surly, rude and totally not my type.

Or so I keep telling myself.

Because I’m starting to think there’s a warm, gooey cinnamon roll with extra frosting lurking beneath that impressive, muscular form.

I promised I’d never choose between my career and love.

But when a scandal threatens to break, that promise could prove impossible to keep…

Book Review:

An enjoyable rom-com perfect for summer reading! Annie has a lot going on. After her flight is delayed, she is forced to stay at an airport hotel, in the same room as a hot, grumpy stranger. Not that anything happened except sleeping…and maybe some cuddling. Needless to say, it was an embarrassing time, at least she never has to see him again. Except for when she arrives at her brand new job and who is her new boss? The same stranger from the flight, Liam Donovan. But she needs the job, so she needs to pretend that the night never happened. Good thing that Liam, or Mr. Donovan, is surly, rude, and definitely not her type. Except there seems to be a warm, gooey center under all the sternness and muscles. But Annie has promised herself that she will never choose between her career and love, and when scandal threatens to break that promise, what will she choose?

This was really fun! I will admit, some of the situational humor leaned towards awkwardness, so there were some points where I was feeling the second-hand embarrassment. However, I am particularly sensitive to second-hand embarrassment and I did find a lot of it pretty funny! It was overall lighthearted and very fun to read. I loved the dynamic between the Donovan siblings, they teased and supported one another. I really enjoyed reading about them all, especially Legs! She was adorable and so funny! I loved how she had everyone wrapped around her finger. I also appreciated Annie’s determination and focus. She was awkward and a bit all over the place in her head, but I definitely saw some people I knew in her and was very endearing. I also thought Liam was so sweet, I love the grumpy outside and soft inside!

I enjoyed reading this! It definitely feels like a summer read, perfect for warm lazy days! It was also really fun to see cameos of some of the characters from the other books! It is a close-door romance, and very enjoyable!

From Love Inspired: Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope.

Book Review:

This was a great read! It took me a bit to read it, but once I really took the time to start it I really enjoyed it. An Unlikely Alliance is written by Toni Shiloh. This book is standalone but it does have some old characters from An Unlikely Proposal. I always love Toni Shiloh’s books so I was super excited to read this one!

Jalissa was kind of hard for me to get at first. She was a bit abrupt and generally saw things only one way, but I grew to like her as I got to know her better. Jalissa was stubborn but she was also kind, she really cared for the animals at the shelter and she would do anything for them. I also liked learning about Jalissa’s anxiety and how it did not define her as a character, but how it did not shy away from it. Jalissa was rough around the edges because of her past, but she learned to trust God and what it meant to forgive.

I thought that Rider was the sweetest! He worked hard to care for those around him and he had a heart for kids who had experienced bullying. Rider was kind and he worked hard, I liked how he tried to understand Jalissa and be open. His past made him wary of her but he was willing to put it aside to help the kids who had experienced bullying at SAFE.

Jalissa and Rider had a rough start, they did not like each other at all. However they were willing to put aside their differences to save the animal shelter and SAFE. It was fun to read about them interacting and seeing them fall in love. They were enemies to lovers, and were drawn together by the same cause. The storyline was interesting and I was interested to see how Jalissa and Rider were going to be able to raise money in order to save the animal shelter and SAFE.

An Unlikely Alliance was an enjoyable read! It was fun to see old characters too! I liked how Shiloh was able to weave faith and forgiveness so seamlessly into the book. I would definitely recommend this book! An Unlikely Alliance is a clean Christian contemporary romance.

Night Prey

About the Book:

Night Prey: (Nighthawk Security Book 6) by [Susan Sleeman]

Title: Night Prey
Series: Nighthawk Security #6
Author: Susan Sleeman
Publisher: Edge of Your Seat Books, Inc
Release Date: October 15th, 2021
Genre: Suspense

She lived for upholding the law…
Defense attorney, Malone Rice, doesn’t want to go to her fifteen year class reunion. Attending means running into her former high school flame, now Portland police detective, Ian Blair. But when the committee decides to honor her for her pro-bono work with homeless teens, she knows it would be churlish not to attend. She will have to go and make the best of it.

But now the law won’t save her.
As expected, Ian attends the reunion, but what Malone doesn’t expect—could never expect—is that Ian would find her standing over their classmate’s dead body. Or that she would still have feelings for the once bad-boy of their high school. Ian’s struggling too, between arresting Malone for murder and his age-old attraction to her. He walks a tightrope, until evidence surfaces that the real killer’s still out there, and Malone becomes his prey. Can Ian overcome his feelings to focus and uncover the truth before the killer strikes again and Malone ends up dead?

Book Review:

Oh my goodness! We’ve reached the end of the Nighthawk series. All the Bryd brothers are happily in love, and now, Malone gets her own book! Malone is Sierra Byrd’s sister-in-law, but the Bryd and Veritas family have basically adopted her. Poor Malone and Ian had a lot to work through, but I loved watching them come together.

When an old classmate tells Malone her parent’s death wasn’t an accident, she has to find out what he knows. But she could have never expected being a witness to a murder. Police detective, Ian Blair, has had a crush on Malone since high school, but he’s not going to let his feelings get in the way of doing his job. When he finds Malone standing over a dead body, he’s forced to arrest her. But when the murderer comes for Malone, they’ll have to work together to find the real story among all the lies.

Wow! This was an exciting book with a lot of twists that I was not expecting. I kept thinking I knew who the villain was, but then someone else would pop into the scene. I was really happy that Malone and Ian worked together though. I think because I know the main characters aren’t evil it’s always a bit frustrating to me when the protagonists doubt each other. So I was very pleased that Malone and Ian didn’t have all that drama.

Malone’s character was so interesting to me! She was living in the past in a lot of ways, and she had to learn how to move on. She wasn’t willing to accept God’s plan for her life, but He was faithful even though she was a little bit bitter. One content warning is that Malone was assaulted by one of her classmate’s in high school. She never told anyone, and she doesn’t tell an authority or her brothers in the book.

Ian was such a sweet guy! He had saved Malone from rape when they were in high school, and he was still determined to protect her. He loved Malone, but he didn’t believe that he could be a good husband or father. His parents were not great, and he was worried he was going to turn into them. I felt like his growth was really realistic. It was slow because he had believed this lie his whole life, and it was hard to accept anything else.

This book was such a rollercoaster! The plot was fascinating, but there were some loose ends that I would have loved to get resolved. It was a clean read in the romance section, but like I said before, there was an attempted rape that was still negatively impacting Malone, but it was not described with a lot of detail. And there are mentions of sexual assault, and the characters witness murders. But again Ms. Sleeman does not give a lot of details which I appreciate. I had a bit of trouble staying into the story, but overall, it was still really interesting. I would recommend this to anyone who loves suspense books and has fallen in love with the Bryd brothers!
