He’s Faced Countless Perils on the Battlefield, but Nothing so Dangerous as Falling in Love.
Luke Davenport has been fighting all his life–for respect, for country, and for those unable to fight for themselves. But now that his Horsemen brothers are domesticated, he’s left alone to battle the wildness within. When an opportunity arises to take a job on his own, tracking down a group of rustlers, he jumps at the chance.
Damaris Baxter has mastered the art of invisibility. Plain and quiet, she hides in books and needlework, content to be overlooked. Until her brother dies suddenly, leaving her custody of her nephew. She moves to Texas to care for Nathaniel, determined to create the family for herself that she never thought she’d have and to give him the family he desperately needs.
When Nate finds himself knee-deep in trouble, Luke’s attempt to protect him leaves Damaris feeling indebted to the Horseman. But suspicions grow regarding the mysterious death of Damaris’s brother. And the more questions they ask, the more danger appears, threatening the family Luke may be unable to live without.
This was just a wonderful end to this lovely series. I have greatly enjoyed Karen Witemeyer’s Hanger’s Horsemen series and I was excited to read the conclusion to this series. In Honor’s Defense is the final book and much awaited! It did not disappoint and I loved everything about this book!
Luke Davenport, Preach was one of the characters I did not know as well. But it was a lot of fun to read about him and learn more about him. Preach had a rough childhood and he was also on guard in going back to his old ways. Luke was a sweet guy, he looked rough on the edges but he was just looking for a place to call his own. It was cute to read about him interacting with Daramis and her nephew, Nathaniel. Luke was fighting his demons, but he was also learning to let people in.
Daramis Baxter was the perfect match for Luke. I really liked Daramis, she was so strong. She left her home to care for her nephew and she gave him unconditional love although he was difficult. Daramis was used to being invisible, forgettable, but being with Luke allowed her to feel seen.
Daramis and Luke were cute together! I liked how they balanced each other and helped make each other better people. It was interesting to read about them falling in love and read about Luke trying to protect Daramis and Nate. Daramis and Nate had worked their way into Luke’s heart and he wasn’t about to let them go.
This book was very exciting and I was on the edge of my seat reading it! I did not want to put it down. It was interesting to read as Luke tried to protect Daramis and Nate and figure out what was trying to hurt them. The storyline was interesting and engaging. The characters were of course a lot of fun and it was cool to read about old characters!
In Honor’s Defense was a great book and I would definitely recommend it! In Honor’s Defense is a clean christoian historical romance. I also enjoy the faith aspects that are woven into Witemeyer’s books and this one was not different. If you enjoy historical Christian romance, then you will like this one.
